Special Occasion

  • Quality one-on-one time together in a stress-free environment where you will bond with the outdoors and bond with each other. Includes use of our facilities for your family, friends, youth group, business or organization. Depending on the season, you can join us for your favorite winter, spring, fall or summer sports.
  • Activities include: Team Building Skills, Archery, Tubing, Canoeing, Swimming on the Saco River (a family favorite), fishing, horseshoes, volleyball, tomahawk throw, bike riding, ping pong, hay wagon ride or just relaxing on our private 3 acre pond. In the winter we have snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice skating, sliding, tobogganing, snowmobiling (bring your own - we are located on a main trail), winter hay wagon ride and evening bonfire

Special Group Rate and Family Packages Available:

Day programs, use of facilities, $10 per-person, per-day.

First Instruction/Maine Guide and equiptment, $400 per-day.

Additional Instructor/Maine Guide $300 per-day.

Overnight accomidations, $25 per-person, per-night.

 

Maine Guide Training Program

What you need to know to become a
Registered Maine Guide

We will cover three categories:
* RECREATION GUIDE * FISHING GUIDE * HUNTING GUIDE

You may choose all three or focus on the one of your choice

This comprehensive five day Residential program (Monday - Friday), is held at Southern Maine Guide Service Lodge & Facilities. Our Outdoor School will educate you in the classroom as well as in the field. These classes are designed to give you hands-on experience to increase your knowledge and skills in the categories listed above, to educate you to the state's expectations in order for you to become a Maine Guide, and to help prepare you for the State oral and written Guide Exams (mock oral board and written exams are included). At Southern Maine Guide Service we have tailored our outdoor school to help you achieve your goals.

Our Guide School Program:

1. Recreation Guide 3 Day School class includes: lost person scenario, map & compass, general client care issues, safety, camping, water craft/canoeing, species indentification & wildlife facts, 3-day (Mon, Tue, & Wed) -- $390.00

2. Fishing Guide School (prerequisite of recreation guide class) one-day class includes: fishing laws, terminology, different types of equipment, fish of Maine (inland waters), and fish habitat, 4-day (Mon, Tue, Wed, & Thu) -- $520.00

3. Hunting Guide School (prerequisite of recreation guide class) one-day class includes: hunting laws, firearms & ammunition, archery equipment, general trapping laws, trap types, mammal and waterfowl indentification, 4-day (Mon, Tue, Wed, & Fri) -- $520.00

4. Day Programs available for students who prefer to commute. Call for details.

* Combination Recreation, Fishing, & Hunting package -- $625.00

Maine Guide Training Schedules for 2008

Spring Session: April 14 to April 18, 2008.
Fall Session: October 13 to October 17, 2008

(Maine Guide applicants must be 18 or older)

Unique High School Diploma Credit Opportunity!

This course is for out-of-school youth and adults. You will earn one high school diploma credit for successfully completing the course.

The Maine Outdoor School

This 3-day adventure provides one academic credit toward an adult high school diploma for students who complete the program. Curriculum focuses on life science, earth science, math, language arts, decision-making, and interpersonal skills. Topics of study include: outdoor ethics and survival techniques, camping and cooking, map and compass orientation, GPS navigation, archery, wilderness first aid, hiking and backpacking, outdoor photography, fish and wetland identification and habit management, forestry, wildlife and conservation management.

  • Offered 5/2 - 5/4, 2008
  • Friday 9am to Sunday 2pm
  • Ages 16 & up
  • Fee $200 - includes: lodging, instructor, meals & equipment

Our experience has been that some groups, organizations and families prefer to do their own thing, along with incorporating parts of our programs to fit theirs. We are pleased to have this flexibility and want your outdoor experience to be a positive one. Enjoy Maine's Beauty Year Round
